TWO FAMILLE ROSE BOWLS
18th century
Comprising: a flaring bowl enamelled with
a long-tailed bird perched atop rockwork
amidst flowering peonies and camellias, the
interior with further floral sprays, the base with
an underglaze blue insect to the base; the
second enamelled to the exterior with a flock
of geese on a lake-shore beside large-headed
peonies, the interior with central peony and
a brocaded band by the rim. The largest:
19.5cm (7 5/8in) diam. (2).

The exterior vibrantly enamelled with a
charming scene of a gentleman carried on
a wheeled chair by his servants towards a
luxurious villa populated with elegant ladies
and boys at various pursuits, the interior with
a central basket of flowers, the rim with a
decorative band.

Each side of the hollow vessel brightly
enamelled with an elderly gentleman
respectively on a bed beside a giant peach
and on a reclining chair, two of the short sides
with landscapes, one with an oval opening,
the other with a reticulated double cash
design, the glaze finely crackled.
