Finely carved in varying degrees through cinnabar,
green and ochre layers with a central cartouche of a
boy Immortal standing on a shore beside pine issuing
from rockwork, each layer detailed with a different
brocade pattern, all encircled by scrolling peaches,
finger citron and pomegranate with green leaves on an
ochre ground, the black interior painted in gilt, the box
decorated ensuite.

A LOBED CINNABAR LACQUER BOX AND COVER
Qianlong
The cover finely carved with an Autumnal scene of a scholar
instructing his two boy attendants to sweep falling leaves off
the floor of a fenced terrace overlooking a lake, the floor, sky
and waves each finely picked out with brocaded patterns,
the sides with a pattern of hexagonal cells each enclosing
flowerheads, the box carved with a matching design.
