THE POEM FOR A PAIR OF
SLIPPERS
The first poem I've written for you, O dear
Is the one about a pair of slippers
When the longing in one's heart is so deep
Any ordinary item could inspire the poet
Who would know as to when the slippers met
That they'd loved for each other's every step
Sharing the burden on all walks of life
On soft carpets, or dirty rough paths
Together they walk, evenly, though wornness
Under the curse of the man's weight
Ups and downs, but never with a different mate
One would depend on the other's kismet
If some day, one slipper then lost
Any substitute would turn out so odd
It'll be missed and the wearer knows it
These two ain't the original set
Like a couple, in the event of one's gone
Every new step will be unevenly false
Although there's a new companionship
Nevertheless, deep down, the old one is missed
The slippers carefree and close side by side
Never taken any oaths, yet, never lied
Never promised, but would never double-cross
At any passages, there are always both
