In my planning stages with carrying such a
heavy load of gear, food and water, the plan
financially was to eat my stores for the first
30 days at least so my wife and I could re-
coup some expenses renting a truck to get
to Lake Itasca had cost. 1200 miles twice,
there and back was not cheap. Add food
and the Cabin…...we aren’t rich and basi-
cally a single income household. In other
words we’re poor, so this trip was a big
deal out of our pocket.
Also in that planning was to go slow to also
save money for the return trip home. One
of the ways I devised to go slow or “Turtle
It” was to remember to make this fun and
not serious.
One plan included “Full Camp Outs” where
I would stop on purpose for a full day and
do full camp acvities: 1) Clean Up 2) Laun-
dry 3) Personal Care 4) Rest and Eat 5)
Walk or Hike on dry land 6) Write/Joumal
7) Take Pics (and do recharge phone etc.)
When the River narrowed and the banks
were mashed down and green grass seemed
to appear. I made a call and decided to stop
and “Full Camp” .
At the same time I picked my Full Camp
Spot I noticed nearby on a ridge a “tree
house” or so I thought till I got there.
It was impressive and really high up.
Once I got in it I felt more confident of it
than it looked on the outside.
The ladder was impressive, the shack made
me nervous.
