Just as fast as I could go
at a slow steady walk, I
moved everything I
could find and placed
them in camp.
Starting the fire was easy
and I let it be a big one.
I was wet, I was cold, I
made hot chocolate and
because I had found a
flask at a used store that
looked cool. I put a shot
of rum in the hot choco-
late that I had filled the
flask with, because while
not a drinker, except for
Pepsi, you learn the bet-
terments and detriments
of alcohol in the cooler
northerner climates real
fast if you live there.
In Alaska, everyone
drank a little, most too
much, but everyone
some.
3 hot chocolates and al-
most living in the fire I
warmed slowly.
Though I was subject to
bone chills easily be-
cause of poor circulation
and Crohn’s I had lived
ten years Alaska so I
knew I would warm up
soon enough and I did.
