Jesus, friend of little children,
        471 Hosanna Loud Hosanna                                Be a friend to me;
        Verse 1 Take my hand and ever keep me
        Hosanna, loud hosanna, Close to thee. 1/4
        The little children sang;
        Through pillared court and temple, The lovely Verse 2
        anthem rang. Teach me how to grow in goodness
                                                                Daily as I grow;
        To Jesus, who had blessed them, Thou hast been a child and surely
        Close folded to His breast; Thou dost know. 2/4
        The children sang their praises,
        The simplest and the best. 1/4 Verse 3
                                                                Step by step, O lead me onward,
        Verse 2                                                 Upward into youth;
        From olivet they followed, 'Midst an exultant Wiser, stronger, still becoming
        crowd, waving the victor palm branch, And In thy truth. 3/4
        shouting clear and loud.
                                                                Verse 4
        Bright angels joined the chorus, Beyond the Never leave me nor forsake me,
        cloudless sky : Ever be my friend,
        Hosanna in the highest, For I need thee from life's dawning
        Glory to God on high! 2/4 To its end. Amen. 4/4
                                                                HOME
        Verse 3
        Fair leaves of silvery olive 473 Hushed was the evening
        They strewed upon the ground, whilst salem's hymn
        circling mountains Echoed the joyful sound. Verse 1
                                                                Hushed was the evening hymn,
        The lord of men and angels Rode on in lowly The temple courts were dark,
        state, nor scorned that little children Should on The lamp was burning dim
        His bidding wait. 3/4
                                                                Before the sacred ark,
        Verse 4 When suddenly a voice divine
        Hosanna in the highest! Rang through the silence of the shrine. 1/5
        That ancient song we sing;
        For christ is our redeemer, Verse 2
        The lord of heaven our king : The old man, meek and mild,
                                                                The priest of Israel, slept;
        O may we ever praise him, With heart and life His watch the temple child,
        and voice, and in His blissful presence eternally
        rejoice.                                                The little Levite, kept:
        Amen. 4/4 And what from Eli's sense was sealed
