As a woman of colour, I have worked in several leadership roles throughout my

career in a white male dominated environment. This was not something which fazed me
nor saw it as a concern and accepted that this was how things were. That was until I
was introduced to BFAN…

BFAN is a volunteer network for Black female finance professionals, experienced, not
so experienced looking to be part of a community to build their professional
network and connect with like minded individuals.

BFAN brings together a minority group of women which has provided a nurturing,
supporting, comfortable and safe platform to shine and to have a strong voice. In addition
to mentorship, personal development, job assistance the list is endless! Each member is

treated equally, and all egos are left at the door.

I have had the opportunity to expand my professional network, and personally have
been able to give back and pay it forward to high school students, educating
them about the profession, mentoring those just starting, and newcomers
acclimating to their new environment.

Most importantly I have been able to make connections which I know will be fruitful
and long lasting. BFAN has gone from strength to strength, and has grown tremendously
in just a few short years, with the network becoming more visible, forming partnerships
and participating in events beyond our network, which is a testament to the ladies
within the group.

I am very pleased that I responded to the initial request to join the network,
where great things lie ahead for both myself and BFAN!
