Message from Joyce Newmyer Chief Culture Officer
How many times each day does someone ask you, “How are you doing?” How do you answer? Most of us say, “Fine.” That happens so often each day that the question and the answer become almost background noise to our day. But what if the person asking the question really wants to know how you’re doing?
The 12 questions that Gallup uses in in our annual Together Em- powered Associate Engagement survey are important, and your responses help your leaders and I understand perceptions of team engagement in our organization. But what they don’t ask or tell us is, “How are you doing?”
This year has been really stressful, and we really want to know how you’re doing. The upcoming engagement survey that starts Sep- tember 8 will include three additional questions that we’re asking simply to find out how you’re doing.
Adventist Health’s mission, “Living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope,” calls us to a very high level of concern, care and love for the people we serve, but also for each other. Whether you are involved in caring for patients directly, working in a hospital or clinic support service, driving to patients’ homes to care for them or working remotely with human contact coming through a screen, we know that 2020 has presented everyone with many challenges. We want to ask, “How are you doing?” We really want to know because your answers will help guide us as we consider how we can better care for your well-being.
Your answers to the three questions will be completely confidential. The summarized responses are important to me as I begin this new role focusing on the culture of Adventist Health, and I am grateful for your participation.
Thank you for living God’s love every day for our patients and for each other.
