Health Fair is mandatory for all associates. Employee Health, in an effort to make
the annual event more efficient, initiated changes that made the annual event a “one stop shop” that is not only efficient, but fun.
This year the fair had a Monopoly “board game” theme and used Monopoly money to guide associates to stations where they received the Flu Vaccine, TB Test and, if required, Fit Testing. To prepare for the
fair, associates completed the Associate Health Fair Course on Health Stream as well as ReadySet surveys online. Those who attended the first six sessions were rewarded with prizes that included Polaroid Snap Cameras and Bluetooth Speakers.
fitted and trained associates in the use of the new MAXAIR Controlled Air Purifying Respirator (CAPR) system high-tech helmets that feature a computer-controlled filter and cooling system and that protects against bacterial and viral contamination. The CAPR system is used by associates who cannot use the N-95 respirators.
Associates received QuantiFERON TB Blood Tests as a time-saving alternative to the TB Two-Step Skin Test, which requires a second reading. Ninety-five percent of Castle associates were vaccinated for the flu this past year. The average rate of vaccination for other healthcare facilities in Hawai‘i is 84 percent.
“We encourage our staff to understand their responsibility in protecting themselves and their patients,” says Grace Takamura, RN, Employee Health Coordinator. “We take special precautions to prevent the spread of virus, including influenza. We do it for our patients. Their lives may depend on it.”
Employee Health sends a big “Mahalo” to Temporary Modified Duty Program associates who volunteered, as well as leaders from Patient Access, Lab and Pharmacy for providing coverage at the various stations.
“I’d also like to thank Chloe Hamilton, RN,
Quality, Maile Kenny, RN, and Devin Tanaka, and Maria Moreno-Chow, RN, Emergency,” Takamura said. “We couldn’t have done it without their efforts.”
