Adventist Health launches Well-Being Division to transform the future of healthcare
Castle associates volunteer the 1st and 3rd Mondays monthly for the Waimanalo Food Distribution Project.
Our mission to live God’s love calls us
to care for our communities outside the walls of our hospitals and medical offices. Inspired by the humanitarian vision of Jesus, Adventist Health is committed
to leading a 21st century well-being transformation movement, bringing health, wholeness and hope to the communities we serve.
A key step toward that strategy occurred in early April, when we announced the acquisition of Blue Zones®, a pioneer
in taking a systemic and environmental approach to improving the well-being
of entire cities and communities. This investment serves as a significant piece within Adventist Health’s 2030 strategy of building three key divisions: Care, Well- Being and Health Management.
Following the unification of our regionally managed care delivery services into a single Care Division in February, we are thrilled to now launch the Well-Being Division, a new entity within our organization that exists to empower everyone everywhere to enjoy longer, better lives. This builds on the foundational work of the Community Integration team, which is now called Community Well-Being. In alignment
with our mission to live God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope, the Well-Being vision is to see a time when well-being is accessible to everyone.
Our Community Well-Being team at Adventist Health Castle is: Jon Kono, Community Board, Chair; Ryan Ashlock, Operations Executive; Melissa Jackson, Community Board; Russell Kim, DDS, Community Board; John Lewis; Denis Mee-Lee, MD, Community Board; Kathy Raethel, Castle President; Todd Reese, Director of Human Performance; Jasmin Rodriguez, Director of Marketing & Communications; Kate Saavedra, CHG Administrative Director; Will Scruggs, MD, Chief of Staff; Jesse Seibel, Director of Mission and Spiritual Care; Tracie Ann Tjapkes, Director of Wellness & Lifestyle Medicine; Kore Liow, MD, Community Board; Ralph Watts III. Community Board; and Michele Seibel, Castle Community Board Liaison.
Adventist Health is called to go beyond delivering care to designing and promoting solutions that measurably and sustainably improve individual, community and organizational well- being. The Well-Being Division will help diversify the Adventist Health business model by developing transformative businesses that:
• Identify and impact root causes of well-being.
• Address needs related to individuals, communities and organizations.
• Impact all dimensions of well-being, including health, sense of purpose, security and prosperity.
• Deliver impact both through direct interventions and by influencing change to man-made surroundings.
• Are aligned to optimize outcomes, quality, revenue and margin.
Ben Leedle, CEO of Blue Zones, has been appointed as Adventist Health’s Well-Being
Division president, serving on the System Cabinet and reporting to President Bill Wing. Ben is a transformative business leader who has spent his career studying and implementing the fundamentals
of health and well-being by delivering value-based solutions that have proven to signif icantly improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
“Ben’s innovation and success in health and well-being transformation make him an ideal leader for this mission-critical work,” CEO Scott Reiner says. “Adventist Health has always believed in creating environments of belonging and easy access to healthy lifestyles, and we also know that the future of healthcare goes beyond the role of traditional hospitals by investing in our communities to improve people’s overall well-being.”
In addition to Ben, Dustin Aho, Well- Being operations
executive, as well
as Shelly Trumbo, Well-Being executive, are leading this transformational work forward. Continuing the work they started with the Community Well-Being team, they will build on our well-
being model focused on people, places and policy while leveraging Blue Zones’ lessons of longevity.
“Drawn to your deep sense of purpose and bold vision to reimagine the role
of healthcare, I am thrilled to be a part
of Adventist Health,” Ben says. “I look forward to championing this vision and working together to further strengthen communities and empower individuals to lead healthier lives. Never before in our lifetimes has there been a greater focus on the behaviors that keep us well. Our faith-based company is poised to elevate this conversation and lead our industry.”
