PEER MENTORING
The purpose of this activity is to span the gap in knowledge regarding
the new network geography and site specific activities. Therefore
we recommend that each new leader be assigned a peer mentor by
site. Ideally the site peer will have a strong knowledge base of the
hospital and the ability to articulate organizational practices.
ASSIGNING A MENTOR
□ Direct supervisor will identify a peer to support the new leader
□ In this case, a conversation with the reporting VP would be
appropriate
□ Duration of the peer relationship experience will be 2-3 months
□ During the first month, it is suggested that the new leader and
peer mentor connect once per week if possible
□ Meeting frequency after that would be as needed
□ Interactions will likely be by phone or e-mail; face-to-face is ideal
PEER MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
□ Reinforce leadership and organizational practices
□ Answer questions and identify resources, help socialize the new
leader into the organizational culture, assist in problem-solving
situations that are challenges for new leader
NEW LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES
□ Determine and set up mutual schedule for meeting with peer
□ Identify questions and/or challenging situations
