My advice as the 11+ exam approaches, would be:-
∙ Stay calm as you have to keep your child relaxed and focused.
∙ It is also important to make sure that your child eats well to stay healthy.
∙ Bed times are important so try to keep the routine going. Children need to be properly relaxed prior to the test so that they sleep well.
∙ Continue reading as it is a good way to prepare them for the last few weeks before their exam.
∙ On the day of the exam, make sure they have a well balanced breakfast which includes high fibre food for slow release of energy to keep them alert during their test.
∙ Make sure your child is prepared with the necessary stationery items needed for the test as detailed in the Test Day Information Letter.
∙ Mobile phones and smart watches (e.g. Fitbit) will not be permitted.
∙ If your child is ill on the day of the test, be sure to contact the test centre direct by the specified time to arrange for an alternative date - check the guidelines regarding this on the Test Day
Information Letter. This will be subject to medical evidence.
∙ Allow plenty of time to get to the test centre just in case there is heavy traffic.
∙ Check weather forecast and plan your journey in case of inclement weather.
∙ Whatever the outcome, remember to applaud your child for a job well done. The experience of preparing for this exam will definitely benefit them in the long run wherever they go in future.
As a parent myself, I understand the stress and anxiety caused by the postponement of 11+ exams in some counties but it is crucial that you stay calm and continue to keep your child focused on what lies ahead.
Last but not least, I would like to wish all students the very best of luck as we approach the final weeks of preparation ahead of the 11+ exams nationwide.
