Joseph Bwalya’s settlement.
Muchinga Province has some caves which are
pre-historic archaeological sites and were used by
the Bisa and Lala during the Ngoni raids in the
pre-colonial era. These caves also have some valuable
archaeological and scientific information that dates
        back about 15, 000 years.
The historic buildings, outposts and sites of
Muchinga Province were home to many missionaries,
        political administrators, messengers of Christianity,
and so on. Lubwa Mission is the home and birth
place of the first Republican President, Dr. Kenneth
Kaunda. The first church station for the present
day United Church of Zambia is also in Muchinga
Province and serves as a burial ground for Kaunda’s
parents, relatives and a few freedom fighters.
The Alice Lenshina burial site was named after an
independence struggle heroin that attracted masses
through her church and was seen as a threat to the
new governance. Her church was banned, causing
massive resistance that resulted in blood shed. The
deceased church members’ graves are still tended to
by surviving members who are now the residents of
a village near Chinsali. Mwenzi Mission station was
established by Rev. James Alexander Chisholm who
belonged to the Free Church of Scotland.
The Old Fife is a historic site that was established
in 1895 and is located about 2 km east of Nakonde
District. This was a military training camp and its
war trenches, cartridges and ammunition are still in
        existence today.
Muchinga Province truly is the capital of historical
and research education. Simply put, civilization was
        birthed in Muchinga.
