TIME OFF TO VOTE
VOTING TIME:
You should be able to vote either before or after regularly assigned work hours. However, when
this is not possible due to work schedules, you should contact your site supervisor and a
member of the Human Resources Service Team to receive up to three (3) hours during the work
day to vote. Time off for voting should be reported and coded appropriately on timekeeping
records.
ELECTION OFFICIAL LEAVE:
Employees who are chosen to serve as election officials at polling sites will be permitted to take
required time off unpaid to serve in this capacity. It is incumbent on employees who are
chosen to act as election officials to notify their site supervisor a minimum of seven (7) days in
advance of their need for time off in order to accommodate the necessary rescheduling of work
periods. Time engaged as an election official should be reported and coded appropriately on
timekeeping records.
Employees will not be disciplined for taking voting leave, serving as election officials or for
failing to vote.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE
Bereavement leave of up to three (3) days without pay may be granted due to the death of the
employee's immediate family member, unless there are unusual business needs or staffing
requirements. For the purpose of this policy, “an immediate family member” is defined as the
employee’s spouse, parent, step-parent, child, step-child, sibling, step-sibling, grandparent or
grandchild; spouse’s parent; or any relative who regularly resides with the employee. An
employee who wishes to take bereavement leave should notify his or her site supervisor
immediately.
