Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Belarus increased by $400mn, to $5.5bn in January-September compared to the same period of 2016, according to the Belstat state statistics agency. According to official data, the number of companies with foreign investments registered in Belarus decreased by 524 entities to 6,575 in 2015-2016. Over the past two years, the total amount of contributions of foreign investors to the equity capital of Belarusian companies fell from $2.65bn to $2.33bn
Belarus should in 2017 attract $1.4bn in foreign direct investment on a net basis (excluding direct debt to investors for goods, works, services), according to a decree on Belarus' social and economic development targets published on the national legal Internet portal on December 14. That is slightly more than the $1.3bn it got in 2015.
