At the same time, brown coal production amounted to 89.4mn metric tonnes, which is 19.7% more than a year earlier. In December 2022, Russia’s total coal production increased by 11.2% to 43.3mn metric tonnes. Thus, the production of hard coal of all types increased by 8% to 33.4mn metric tonnes, coking coal - by 2.4% to 9.8mn metric tonnes, other hard coal - by 13.4% to 21.6mn metric tonnes, while anthracite production decreased by 13.3% to 2mn metric tonnes.
Russia’s coal output fell by 1.8% on the year and by 19.3% on the month to 34.9mn tonnes in January, the Federal State Statistics Service said on Wednesday. Production of anthracite coal fell by 10.1% on the year to 2.1mn tonnes, while the output of coking coal decreased by 8.4% to 7.8mn tonnes. Production of primary aluminium in the Russian Federation in January 2023 increased by 13.9% compared to January 2022, follows from the data of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation (Rosstat). Compared to December 2022, the output of primary aluminium decreased by 11.5%. The production of structures and structural parts made of aluminium in January (9.77 thousand tonnes) was 14.1% less than in January 2022, and 41.3% less than in December 2022.

Polar Lithium, a joint venture (JV) between Rosatom and Norilsk Nickel, has received a license to develop the Kolmozerskoye lithium deposit in the Murmansk Region, Norilsk Nickel said in a statement on Wednesday. The deposit contains 18.9% of Russia’s lithium reserves, or 843,645 tonnes of lithium oxide registered as of the beginning of 2021. The forecasted reserves under P1 amount to 13.5mn tonnes of ore and 152,600 tonnes of lithium oxide. End
