Russian shipyards reduced the number of commissioned ships and vessels by about 20% in 2022, but their total tonnage increased by more than half, Kommersant daily reported citing INFOLine data shows. Tanker fleet accounted for more than half of the growth, primarily due to the large-capacity vessels delivered by Zvezda shipyard affiliated with state oil major Rosneft.
As followed by bne IntelliNews, following the fallout from Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, the Russian commercial ship fleet is in focus. Its condition is important for tanker transportation of oil, oil products and gas, for exports of grain, and for the fishing industry that recently underwent flopped reforms.
The report by Kommersant notes that in 2023 about 60-70 large civil ships are expected to be delivered, key equipment for which has been supplied from “unfriendly” countries before the invasion, but the output could then drop in 2024 due to components supply problems.
In 2022, in the category over 50 tonnes, the volume of delivered fleet decreased by 18 units to 70. Also 35 small vessels and cutters with tonnage less than 50 tons were built, that is 2.6 times less than in 2021 (91 units). In civil shipbuilding 55 vessels were delivered, which is 6 fewer than in 2021. In military and special shipbuilding, 15 ships and submarines were delivered, which made almost twice less than in 2021.
The number of dry-cargo ships (used to transport grain, for example) that was delivered in 2022 also declined abruptly: from 17 in 2020 and 16 in 2021 to
