Capital investment in Ukraine increased by 26.5% year-on-year in January-June vs a 22.5% y/y growth in the first half of 2017, according to the Ukrstat state statistics service.
Capital investment in Ukraine in 2017 increased by 22.1% y/y, growth in the first nine months of last year was 20.7% y/y, in the first half of the previous year was 22.5% y/y, Interfax reported on August 28.
In January-June, UAH206.9bn ($7.4bn) in capital investment was injected, excluding the territories of annexed Crimea, Sevastopol and rebel-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Meanwhile, the largest increase in capital investments was recorded in January-June in the Donetsk region (2.1 times), the Chernihiv region (1.7 times), the Zakarpattia region (by 35.9%), the Dnipropetrovsk region (35.2%), the Rivne region (34.9%), the Vinnytsia region (30.5%).

The unemployment rate among the economically active population in Ukraine in the second quarter of 2018 dropped to 8.3% y/y. "The unemployment rate among the economically active population aged 15 to 70 in Q2 2018 compared to Q2 2017 declined by 0.8 percentage points, to 8.3%," the Ukrainian news outlet zn.ua reported on September 24, referring to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service. There were 16.5mn employed people in Ukraine in April-June 2018, while the overall number of unemployed of the corresponding age was 1.5mn people, it said. The employment rate of the population aged 15 to 70 over the period under review grew by 0.9 percentage points, to 57.7% y/y, while that of the working-age population rose by 1.5 percentage points, to 66.6%. From January 1, 2019, the minimum unemployment benefit for entitled persons depending on the length of service and salary will increase from UAH1,440 ($51) to UAH1,630 ($58), while benefits for other groups of persons will grow from UAH544 ($19) to UAH610 ($22).
