Ukraine is waiting for ENTSO-E to increase the import of electricity. Ukraine expects to cover the electricity shortage in its power system as much as possible by importing electricity from Europe. For this to take place, a decision by ENTSO-E on increasing the carrying capacity of interstate crossings is necessary, said the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko. According to Galushchenko, there is enough electricity in the EU, however, due to Russian shelling, there is a deficit in the Ukrainian energy system, which Ukraine would like to diminish as much as possible at the expense of increased imports. According to the minister, one of the critical issues of electricity import is its financing. “However, it is important to have another solution, the ENTSO-E solution, which would allow us to increase our import opportunities,” the minister added.
A 1,000 MW nuclear power unit has been repaired and started supplying electricity. State energy company Energoatom has connected an additional 1,000 MW nuclear power unit, which has been under repair for three weeks in December, to the power grid, the Ministry of Energy reported. It had not been in operation since November 23, when Russia succeeded in disrupting the integrity of Ukraine's energy system with a missile strike. On the night of December 13, after repairs, it was put into operation. All nine power units of the domestic nuclear power plants located on the territory controlled by Ukraine are working, commented Minister Herman Galushchenko. However, six power units of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, controlled by the Russian occupiers, are constantly consuming about 100 MW for their own needs from the energy system of Ukraine instead of generating electricity.
Ukraine plans to double commercial electricity tariffs. The national energy company, Ukrenergo, has proposed an increase in tariffs for the transmission of electricity and for dispatching management beginning January 1, 2023. In particular, the company offers to set the electricity transmission tariff at the UAH 636.17/MWh level for 2023, while today, it is UAH 345.64/MWh. It is proposed to increase the tariff for dispatch management services from UAH 62.13 to UAH 207.63/MWh. If Ukrenergo's proposal is approved, the two-fold increase in prices for businesses will be transferred to consumers through an increase in the prices of goods, which will reflect the new tariffs. Among the main reasons for the need to increase tariffs, the company cited the destruction of the energy infrastructure, which has led to a significant increase in the volume of physical work and cost.
