possible to transport 120 GWh of hydrogen daily through Central Europe by 2030. Modernizing the gas pipeline from the Ukrainian border to the south of Germany will require an investment of €1-1.5B. The probable transportation cost will be from €0.10 to €0.15 per kg per 1,000 km. According to current plans, work on the project will begin in 2024, and should be completed by 2030. Companies interested in participating may consider applying for IPCEI status - an important project of pan-European interest. This will provide for European investment.
9.1.11 Metallurgy & mining sector news
Ukraine’s 2022 steel production is one-third of last year. Ukrainian metallurgical industry enterprises produced 5.84 million tons of steel from January to October 2022, compared to 17.9 million tons in the same period last year, reported Ukrmetalurgprom. According to data for the first ten months of 2022, Ukrainian metallurgists produced 5.844 million tons of steel, which is only 32.6% compared to 2021, when 17.903 million tons were produced. In particular, 5.81 million tons of pig iron were produced, or 32.8% of last year's figures (17.7 million tons). The production of rolled products also decreased - 5.02 million tons, which is equal to 31.4% of the volume from January-October 2021 (15.9 million tons).
More than 73% of the EU’s critical minerals are in Ukraine. In 2021, Ukraine was among the top 10 countries producing titanium, iron ore, kaolin, manganese, zirconium, and graphite. Among the 120 types of minerals consumed in the world, 117 are found in Ukraine’s bowels. In addition, deposits of 22 out of the 30 minerals that are included on the EU’s critical list are concentrated in Ukrainian territory, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a forum on strategic partnership in Ukraine-EU raw materials. According to Shmyhal, Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the EU to achieve complete independence from Russian resources. The prime minister noted that Ukraine could become an important mineral resource player in the EU economic zone and an integrated part of industrial chains united with the EU.
