Firearm deaths
Firearm-related deaths rose for a second-straight year in 2016,
largely due to an increase in gun violence in major cities,
according to newly released data from the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control (CDC). In 2016, there were more than 38,000
gun-related deaths in the U.S – 4,000 more than 2015.
Most gun-related deaths – about two-thirds – are suicides, but
the CDC data shows there were approximately 11,000 gun-
related homicides in 2016, up from approximately 9,600 in
2015.
