This portrait of the Italian
Consul's wife in Amsterdam was begun as a realistic painting to be slowly transformed in what one can see now. This happened through the important influences of studies with Vordemberge-Gildevart and in local museums while he was studying with a scholarship granted by the Dutch government. This led, especially in the portraits, to the temporary shelving of the search for an original expression through a stylistic plurality in favor of a renewed formal coherence inspired by the new models he was discovering.
