This work and the three
subsequent works are part of a
transitional phase in which Vanni poses the problem of accentuating the communication between the main elements of the composition in order to achieve a more marked integration between the fragmentary forms and the surrounding space. In this picture it can be seen how he underlined the materiality of the background with a chiaroscuro intervention as if it were conditioned by the lines of force that run through it. The latter and the forms that generated them have in turn lost their chromatic conflict with the space that surrounds them.
