Campus Ministry NEWS Bruins Rake Leaves for Elderly and Disabled
Seventy students gave back to the community by raking and bagging leaves at 27 homes of Parma residents who are elderly or have disabilities on Saturday, November 23, 2019.
All of our students are committed to serving the community, following the example of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi. At Padua, students learn that actions are a reflection of faith. Last year, our students collectively completed over 13,000 hours of service.
Bruins Attend 61st Annual Bishop’s Address
Several Bruins had the opportunity to hear Bishop Nelson Perez address the First Friday Club of Cleveland on Thursday, January 9, 2020.
Bishop Perez, who was in his third year leading the Diocese of Cleveland, spoke about a number of topics, including his December trip to the Vatican, where he had the opportunity to meet with Pope Francis. The Holy Father spoke of his love for young people and how youth is a state of mind, not just a period of time.
The bishop was named to a three-year term as episcopal liaison to the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. He began his term in November at the national conference in Indianapolis, Indiana, which was attended by more than 20,000 high schoolers. Bishop Perez reminded attendees that they should never underestimate the power of God working in them, through them and sometimes despite them. “There is an amazing spirit at work in the Church,” he said. “And you’re all here because you were touched by Christ.”
Sydney Stefka ‘23 said, “One takeaway from this event was that we, as young people of God, need to take control, meaning that if there is a need in the church that we see, we need
to respond, just as St. Francis did when he was at the San Damiano Cross and heard the voice say, “’Go and rebuild my church that is falling into ruin.’”
A few weeks after the address, Bishop Perez was named Archbishop of Philadelphia.
