               Intravenous Drug Administration







               Aims: The aim of this study day is to provide nurses with

               the theory and didactic components of intravenous drug

               administration in the clinical setting.


               Course Content: The Scope of Nursing Practice and the

               main principles of Intravenous Drug Administration. Focus

               on infection control. Discussion of hemovigilance issues,

               pharmacological principles, bolus, intermittent and

               continuous infusions. An overview of the competency record

               provided.


               Objectives: This course prepares nurses to safely and

               effectively administer Intravenous medications utilising a

               competency assessment framework to facilitate opportunity

               to develop skills with adequate supervision.


               Target Audience:  This course is directed at registered

               nurses who wish to pursue the skills of Intravenous Drug

               Administration using a competency assessment skill

               pathway.


               A pre-requisite to this course is Anaphylaxis Training.
