Colour me beautiful
TIPS FROM CANDICE
(Brought to you by Blush pro)
How did your passion for makeup start?
My love for makeup started at age 7 when my mom used to let me play with all her old Estee Lauder eyeshadows and blushers, but blossomed when I was 9 and I used to do my friends makeup, I loved their reactions and it gave me the most amazing feeling when they saw how beautiful they looked.
What would you say should a bride keep in consideration when choosing a makeup artist
for her makeup?
The most important thing is to have an honest open relationship with your artist. If he/she has been in the industry long enough they should have a thick skin and be able to take your constructive criticism and or be able to look at a desired look of yours and be able to tell you that it will or wont work, the reasons why and will be able to adapt the look you want into something that will suit you perfectly. Make sure you do your homework on your makeup artist, check their websites and make sure they have more than 3 years’ experience and make sure you aren’t fooled by
“beautified” photos.
How would you say should a bride by choosing the colours of her makeup?
umm.. not sure about this. I would say that when choosing colours or your “look”, a bride should stick to tones that go with her skin tone, this is where it is vital to have a good relationship with your artist. A lot of brides say “I just want a natural or bronze eye” but in actual fact the colour bronze they like doesn’t suit them. To be honest it all depends on what type of person you are. Some brides are fashion forward, some brides want to their makeup to stay with their colour scheme and others just like the classic bride look.
Would you say doing trial session is important when choosing the right hair and makeup look for the big day? And why?
Yes definitely! Reason being is that the style of makeup (like a winged liner) might not suit you. It is the same with a dress fitting, sometimes the style of dress you really want doesn’t fit your body nicely and you end up going for a totally different dress. It is also nice to see how your hair and makeup will work with your dress.
What would your advice be to a bride for her makeup when dealing with a hot and humid day? If possible, try get ready in an airconditioned room. Your makeup artist will use setting spray before, during and after your makeup so that should help. My best tip would be to take a tissue and peel the sides so that you get two thin pieces. Gently place them on your skin where you are shiny and then use a loose or a blot powder. If you put
powder over the shine/oil it can get cakey.
Would you say it is important for a bride and her bridesmaids to gather example images of what they would like their hair and makeup to look like? And why?
Yes absolutely, it’s nice for the artist to know what your vision is so that we can try replicate it for you.
Is it important to have your makeup blend with the colour of your dress and the colours of the wedding?
No. like I said earlier it all depends on you as a person.
How long before the wedding would you say should a bride start looking for a makeup artist for her wedding?
Anywhere from 6 months to a year. Some artists already have bookings for March and April 2020.
When choosing a hairstyle for the big day, what would you say is the most important thing a bride should consider when choosing her hairstyle? Sjoe, this is a tough one. I’d say think about what your dress looks like. If the dress has a low or detailed back then have your hair up. You spend a lot of money on dresses so show them off.
What is your favourite part of helping a bride get ready for her wedding?
Oh my gosh it is to hard to choose. I love every second of getting ready in the morning with my brides. There is always so much love in the room. I always tear up on every single wedding because each one is just so darn special.
