Lake Mead National Recreation Area is located along the western Arizona border about 25 miles east of Las Vegas, NV. It offers a wealth of things to do and places to go year-round. Its huge lakes cater to boaters, swimmers, sunbathers, and fishermen, while its desert rewards hikers, wildlife photographers, and roadside sightseers. It is also home to thousands of desert plants and animals, adapted to survive in an extreme place where rain is scarce and temperatures soar. Created by Hoover Dam, Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the U.S.

Pipe Spring National Monument offers a glimpse of Southern Paiute and Mormon pioneer life. Guided tours of the historic ranch are offered during the summer and rangers provide daily living history demonstrations. The water of Pipe Spring has made it possible for plants, animals, and people to live
in this dry, desert region. The Pipe Spring/Kaibab Paiute museum offers comprehensive exhibits on the areas culture and history.
