power of ordinary men/ mystic wonders / is the object/ for which I/ the
Norm this/ teach/: that it/ leads/ well /to the thorough destruction of ill/
for the doer thereof?/
Then/ Sunakkhatta,/ what purpose/ surpassing the power of ordinary men/
mystic wonders/ would the performance of miracles serve?/ see/ you
foolish man,/ how far/ the fault(this)/ is your own
“does not / But,/ to me/ Lord,/ The Fortunate One/ the beginning of
things/ reveal./”
"Why now/ you I / Sunakkhatta/ this/ have ever said/ come/ you/
Sunakkhatta/ my disciple/ be. / I - to you/ the beginning of things/ will
reveal./”
“No,/ I have not/ Lord/”
“Or you/ to me/this/ have ever said:/ I/ Lord,/ the Fortunate One/ as my
teacher / will become,/ Lord/ for me/ the beginning of things/ will
reveal./”
“No,/ I have not/ Lord/”
But if/ Sunakkhatta/ not the one,/ I said and you said not the other,/
Come/ you/ Sunakkhatta/ my disciple/be/ I - to you/ the beginning of
things/ will reveal./”
