            pastor edward taylor was one of the first great poets produced in the united states he was

            born in england taylor came to america in 1688 he was suffering persecution in his
            homeland he graduated from harvard university he became a pastor and physician in

            westfield massachusetts his poetry was the best produced in America at the time his poems
            are imaginative and filled with many illustrations pastor taylor produced his poetry in the

            late 1600s it was not discovered and published until the 1930s he was not known for many
            years he is now considered one of the best puritan poets
