Rule 7:
            When a sentence starts with a number, the number is almost always written out as a word.
            •  Incorrect:  2 girls walked across the street.
            •  Correct:  Two girls walked across the street.

            Rule 8:
            Write out numbers like first, sixth, forty-third, and so on.
            •  Incorrect:  The student took 1st place in the mathematics competition.
            •  Correct:  The student took first place in the mathematics competition.

            Exception:  The exception to the above rules is when a sentence starts with s specific year or if the number is
            part of a title; then the year (or title) is written as a numeral.
            •  Incorrect:  2001 was the beginning of the new century.
            •  Correct:  101 Dalmatians is my favorite movie.



                Practice 16:  Make corrections as needed in the sentences below.
                1.  5 dogs slept on the front porch.

                2.  To start the quilt, you should cut 6 2-inch strips of cloth.
            3.  There are over 7,000,000,000 people in the world.

            4.  In the flower basket, there were 7 yellow, five red, and eight blue flowers.
            5.  125 students attended the show.

            6.  Seventeen hundred seventy-six was the year that the American Declaration of
               Independence was signed.

            7.  6 Martyrs for Christ is an excellent book.
            8.  48 states were a part of the United States before 1957; there are now 50 states.

            9.  Paula was the 3rd person to receive the scholarship.
