Study Section 4: The Doctrine of the Bible
4.1 Connect.
Did you know that the bestselling book of all time around the entire world is the Bible? Have
you noticed that countries that oppose God, for example North Korea, also oppose anyone in
their country having a Bible? That’s because the Bible came from God and His revelation to us
about who He is. From reading the Bible, we become knowledgeable about who our God is,
what He is like, how He things, and discover His great love. In the next few lessons we are
going to explore how the Bible came to us from God.
4.2 Objectives:
1. The student should be able to describe how God inspired people to write down the words He
wanted to place in the Bible.
2. The student should be able to explain the concept of inerrancy about the Bible.
3. The student should be able to state the various models of inspiration and define which is correct
when it comes to the Bible being God’s Word.
4.3 The Doctrine of the Bible – Part 1
The Bible claims to be the very Word of God. It claims to be God-breathed and is the revealed
plan of God through the ages. It tells us how we came into being, who we are, how we can
inherit eternal life, and what will happen in the future of the world. Many today, however,
claim it is merely a book like others which has no real significance other than being filled with
nice stories which help people feel better about themselves.
However, The Bible is a book to be treasured above all else! It is precious. (How do you treat your
Bible?) The Bible needs to be read daily, and applied in every aspect of our lives. The Bible is God’s
finished revelation to man. This Book is God’s WORD!
Let’s see how it came together over 1500 years.
Questions to Consider:
1. How did God produce the Bible?
2. How did it get its name?
3. Who wrote it?
4. Is it God’s Word as it claims?
5. What does “inspiration” mean?
6. What does “inerrancy” mean?
7. What languages was it written in?
8. Has the truth written in the original manuscripts been preserved for us today?
9. How did they decide which books should be in the Bible and which should not?
