14.5 Let’s Personalize this Lesson…

                         Activity:  Let’s pretend.  Open up Word and start typing a sentence.  Then open up any book, and type a
                         sentence out of that book.  Basically you have copied information that is not your own, so you need to
                         footnote it.  Open the References tab and look to where it says “Insert Footnote”.  It has a large “ab”
                         above the words, “insert footnote.”  Click on it.  Notice that a footnote is created at the bottom of your
                         page along with a line.  Now you can type the author, name of the book, publisher, date, and page of
              the book.  Look at the formatting used in this lesson.  You have now created your first footnote.  Now, every time
              you are writing a paper and borrow a THOUGHT or quote from another person or website, you can add a footnote
              to avoid the offense of plagiarism.
