 Biography
 Julius Gaspard Starck was a Belgian painter. He studied under the direction of Francois
 Joseph Navez at the Academy of Beaux Arts of Brussels and under Horace Vernet. He painted
 scenes of genre. He was fascinated and attracted by the Orient. He visited Constantinople
 (Turkey) and accompanied the painter Jacob Jacobs and other Belgian painters such as
 Jean Portals and Jean Baptiste Huysmans. He visited the Dardanelles, Rhode and discovered
 the streets of Constantinople where he painted the daily life. Then he traveled to Egypt. His
 painting are realistic. He belongs to The Painters of the Golden Horn.
