Description: A beautifully colored impressionist painting where two young women are preparing
the bride for the wedding.
Biography
Jules Pierre van Biesbroeck was born on the 25th October 1873 in Portici , Italy; and died
on the 27th January 1965 in Brussels. He was a Belgian painter famous for his landscapes,
portraits and even sculptures.
He gained his initial knowledge of art from his father Jules van Evariste Biesbroeck, who
was a professor in the Gent Academy of Fine Arts. Jules Pierre went on to study in that
same Academy and after made his debut in 1888, with 15 years of age, in the Salon of the
Champs-Élysées in Paris with his image in a grand format “Le lancement d’Argos”, which
produced a huge scandal. A trip to the North of Africa in 1926 was used to treat themes
of the Middle Eat. He experiment mainly with the effects of light on his paintings. Up until
1935, he also maintained a studio in Algiers.
