        The Benefit BUZZ
Focus on Financial Wellness
By: Travis Callahan, Talent Acquisition Specialist
We are facing unprecedented times - for many, that means stress, anxiety, and worries about health, employment, social isolation, and finances. We encourage all Authentix employees to think about their wellbeing and how it affects them on an individual as well as a professional level. The holistic approach to wellbeing consists of several pillars – career, financial, social/ emotional, community, and physical. This edition we will talk about financial wellness, and how you can be prepared to make smart choices during the COVID-19 crisis.
First thing’s first, get on a budget! Making a monthly budget will show you exactly where your money is being spent, so that you’re not left at the end of each month wondering where your money has gone. There are helpful apps to do this such as Mint and Mvelopes. You may end up having to cut back on discretionary expenses but it’s best to look at this as a temporary fix to help you stay afloat until the storm passes. Perhaps you could avoid restaurants or pre-made meals and try your hand at cooking from scratch. Cooking can be a great stress reliever and fresh ingredients are always more delicious. It’s certainly more affordable! Another quick tip is to think about how that daily $5 cup of gourmet coffee so quickly adds up. For additional financial advice, take a listen to a podcast such as Listen Money Matters or the Dave Ramsey Show.
2020 has been an unforgettable year for
my family. We had been renting in the capital city of Accra for five years previous and
our lease ended in June. Before
the global pandemic started, we
had acquired a parcel of land in a town called Medie, near the capital city of Ghana, to build a new home.

recorded in Italy alone got us so depressed we wanted to halt the whole project, but because we had already purchased the construction materials, we continued
building. We then stopped watching the global news to feel less depressed. During the construction process, we all had experienced some symptoms of Corona virus and we became very scared. The area had a lot of Neem trees, and from local medical advice, this tree is used in curing fever, so we boiled it to drink while continuing our work and we all stayed well.
Due to my management of the tax stamp CSR in 2019, I had no time to begin construction of our new home, but because of the pandemic and the stay home policies that were available, my family made good use of this circumstance. Though we still have outside painting and landscaping to be completed, we hope to be finished by December 2020. We moved to our new home in July. Though 2020 is the
year of the global pandemic, we were still able to build a homeamidallthat.

CONGRATULATIONS!
When we heard about the pandemic and the mode of transmission, we wished we were already living in our new home to lessen the risk of virus for my family. Before the lockdown, we purchased construction materials and food items to continue progress. We rented a house closer to the construction site (just a few minutes’ walk for us) and continued construction while still observing safety protocols.
Along the line, we watched
the news and felt all we were trying to achieve would become wasted if the virus killed us all. The deaths
