HIS EXCELLENCY ALI BIN AHMED AL-KUWARI MINISTER
OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY OF THE STATE OF QATAR
His Excellency Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari replaced Sheikh Ahmed bin
Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani as the Minister of Commerce
and Industry since 4 November 2018. Al Kuwari had been
serving as the group CEO of QNB since 2013. QNB is the
Qatar’s largest bank and is 50 percent owned by the Qatar
Investment Authority.
The Amir has appointed the Group CEO of QNB as the new
Minister of Commerce and Industry – a move that is believed to
bring prominent business executives and expertise into the
Cabinet to focus to the economy. This is the first cabinet reshuffle
since Qatar went under the blockade. The cabinet reshuffle on 4
November 2018 could be viewed as the country’s serious move
to strengthen its economy as underlined in Qatar National Vision
2030 as well as in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
The appointment of H.E Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari could also be seen
would help the country’s to further spur its economic growth
based on their extensive experiences with QNB.
Prior to his appointment as Minister of Commerce and Industry,
his Excellency acquired significant professional experience in his
capacity as the Group CEO of QNB from December 9, 2014 to
