THE SCHOOL CONTEXT

Coronationville Secondary School is located

under the Johannesburg Metropolitan

Municipality, in the area of Newlands. It is a

fee paying school and it falls under quintile 3

of the South African Schools and it is located

in a mixed race community. The surrounding

areas of the school include an informal

settlement where some learners stay and

also houses which seem as if they are

dilapidated mainly because it is an old

suburb. There are also flats opposite the

school where some learners also stay, this is

a low income surrounding which is faced by

many social ills including substance abuse.
