What will I learn?
You can expect an engaging course, with an industry focus, delivered by staff with recent industry experience. The course is made up of a wide subject base including the study of major incidents, criminology and expedition skills, and law and the legal system.
The core curriculum will give you an underpinning knowledge in a wide range of relevant and up to date public sector areas that include:
• leadership
• politics
• discipline
• crime and its effects on society
• health and fitness
How will I be assessed?
The course is 80% theory and 20% practical. You will participate in the practical sessions, which may include a residential, in order to fulfil the requirements of the course.
All assessment is via coursework, either in the classroom, during activities in sports facilities or in the outdoors.
What enrichment can I look forward to?
Students will have a wide range of opportunities to develop their knowledge of careers and employability skills. Previously students have experienced an exciting range of activities and benefitted from a range of speakers from the uniformed public services. They have also enjoyed a wide variety of up to date industry specific activities with all the uniformed services, including:
• police training
• self-defence classes
• visits to the Houses of Parliament • school visits
What progression is there?
A wide range of careers are available to
you on completion of the course, including, uniformed Public Services such as Police, Fire and Rescue, Ambulance, Prison and Armed Forces, Customs and Excise, or even within the private security industry. Many students also go on to university after successfully completing this course. Some examples are:
• Leeds University – Criminology
• Manchester Metropolitan – Law
• Lancaster University – Business
