Town is bucking national trend
Chesterfield has impressive figure of 91% of its shop space occupied by retailers

Town centres right across the country are going through a tough time as more and more people choose to do their shopping on-line.
But Chesterfield is contin- uing to buck the trend with fewer empty shops than the national average.
The occupancy rate for shops in Chesterfield is an
impressive 91 per cent.
The average across the UK
is 88 per cent.
In fact the town is the sev-
enth largest retail footprint in the whole of the East Mid- lands.
The town was also held up by Property Week as being among the top 30 places for retail investment opportuni- ties in the whole of the UK.
Recent stores who have de- cided to come to the town in- clude the likes of Deichmann Shoes, Patiserie Valerie and TJ Hughes, as well as a number of independent stores.
These include everything from fashion at Zebra Mens- wear to the latest vinyl offer- ings at Tallbird Records.

Chesterfield’s outdoor market is one of the biggest in the country and the town’s famous Crooked Spire helps to attract 3.5 million visitors every year, who spend £164 million in the local economy
via the town’s shops, cafes and restaurants.
For visitors who choose to stay in the town, there is the award-winning four-star Casa Hotel which has been named among the UK’s very best in Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.
And the option for people staying in Chesterfield is set to grow considerably, with new hotels and guest accommoda- tion included in a number of major plans in development – including Premier Inn at the former Co-op, Waterside and Peak Resort.
