Located in the heart of Ches- terfield, Chesterfield Markets has a long, interesting past. It’s one of the oldest markets in the country, having been
a trading hub for over 800 years.
Made up of a series of weekly markets, speciality monthly markets and a pro- gramme of lively events, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Starting with the open air market held every Monday, Friday and Saturday, it’s the place to go for a great bargain in Chesterfield, friendly trad- ers are selling everything from cutlery to carpets and pots to potatoes!
It’s also home to one of the UK’s largest growing flea mar- kets every Thursday, when the town is packed with over 150 stalls selling second-hand and unusual antiques, crock- ery, vintage clothes, jewellery,
crafts and bric-a-brac. Rum- mage hard enough and you might just discover a priceless antique in disguise!
Organised by The Mar- ket Co., the Artisan Market is held on the last Sunday of every month. It’s reminiscent of yesteryear with an upmar- ket twist, and you’ll find over 80 of Chesterfield’s finest arti- san traders selling authentic, quality produce that focuses on all that is original as well as locally and ethically sourced from Chesterfield and the neighbouring Peak District.
The Market Hall stands proudly at the side of the Mar- ket Square and can be seen for miles around.
Originally built in 1857 ‘for the shelter and safeguard of the market people’ it now houses a whole host of traders. Pick up old fashioned sweets at Auntie Dot’s, browse one of the area’s largest selection
