£10.5m transformation of the former Co-op department store in Elder Way into a 92- bed Premier Inn hotel with a gym and restaurants.
Work is now well advanced and the hotel is expected to open in Spring 2019.
Completion of the ground floor and basement, which will include a gym and number of restaurants, will follow short- ly after this.
In addition to the redevel- opment of the Co-op, a new public realm is being created to encourage more people to use the area and help to forge an important link between the new Premier Inn, the town centre and the new Saltergate multi-storey car park.
Work is already underway to build the modern, 24 hour multi-storey replacement Saltergate Car Park.

Work on Markham Vale start- ed in 2006 and much of the 200 acre site, which is the former home of Markham Colliery, has now been devel- oped.
£88 million has been in- vested into the Markham Vale project, transforming the area
into a business and industrial park. It has also attracted £130 million of private investment.
More than 1,600 jobs have been created with 1.8 million sq. ft. of developed business space and this is still another 100,000 sq. ft. available for further development.
A number of high profile employers have moved into Markham Vale so far, includ- ing Ferdinand Bilstein UK,
Peak Resort.

The first HS2 train will arrive in Chesterfield in 2033. HS2 will be transformative for the
whole of north Derbyshire. Ahead of this, Chester- field Borough Council has outline plans to improve the approach to the railway sta- tion and better connect it to the town centre, creating easy access to shopping, bars and restaurants, as well as improv- ing public transport links lo- cally and to the Peak District

HS2 is committed to de-
veloping a 22 hectare main- tenance depot at the eastern end of the 150 hectare Stave- ley Works Area. This will open up the Staveley corridor. Op- portunities include up to 30 hectares of employment land, 1,500 new homes and a new village centre.
