REACH FOR THE SKY-HOUSE
A new housing development which is bringing the traditional Victorian back-to-back style right into the 21st Century is on the horizon in South Yorkshire.
Sky-House, designed by award- winning, She eld-based architects CODA Studios, is a new development of 44 homes in Waverley – a new residential and business community situated in an equidistant position between Rotherham, She eld and Meadowhall.
Named for the unique private roof gardens that feature on every property, Sky-House will create its
own community centred around a ‘pocket park’. The homes will each have private balconies and courtyard parking, as well as a series of open spaces for residents to use.
The back-to-back concept was originally conceived in 1838 as a cost- friendly housing solution designed for the working class. Now, CODA has re-imagined the design for the 21st Century creating thoroughly modern houses to suit rst-time buyers and families alike.
David Cross, Managing Director at CODA Studios, said: “Our aim is to
provide a ordable starter homes that are beautiful, environmentally sound and materially robust to ll the gap between the apartment market and the national housebuilders.
“This is our rst Sky-House project and we are delighted to be working with Redbrik, who will be bringing the properties to market.
“It has taken us several years of detailed negotiation with site owners Harworth Estates, who have been amazing in their support, to select the right location for us to deliver this unique contemporary development.
“Sky-House has been one of CODA’s most talked about and applauded concepts and one that we feel will t in perfectly with the Waverley development plan.”
Within the 44-property development, there will be 40 two-bedroom houses, with en-suite shower rooms and an open plan kitchen/living area. A further four homes will have four- bedrooms with separate living room and gardens to the front and rear.
The interiors of the homes, also designed by CODA, will have a modern minimalist feel throughout
featuring full height windows and doors, ample storage space and open plan living. With over 840 sq. ft. of living space, the homes at Sky-House are above the national average size for starter homes.
All Sky-House properties will be eco- friendly, featuring highly insulated, low E appliances. The compact design of the homes also means heat loss will be minimised, creating properties with lower than average running costs.
Mark Ross, Director at Redbrik, said: “Sky-House is an utterly inspired housing development which is sure to transform the area and bring much needed homes to the She eld and Rotherham border.
“The developers at CODA are doing brilliant work in bringing this vision to life. They have spent a great deal of time developing this project to ensure they are able to provide the very best starter homes possible.
“Complete with ‘Help-to-Buy’, Sky-Houses provide an excellent opportunity for rst-time buyers and young families to purchase a brand- new home in a great, up and coming area.”
