Ridgeway Primary School
Checklist for New Parents
We’ve put this checklist together to help us make sure that things don’t go missing, your
children are safe and we work together so your children can get the very best out of
their time with us at Ridgeway.
1. Always remember to phone on the day of an absence before 8.55am. This is
officially the start of the school day.
2. Always phone if you are going to be late picking up your child.
3. If you bring your child to school after all the other children have gone in to school, you must go to
the school office to sign them in the late book.
4. Label everything!!! Identifying whose jumper is whose when they are all identical, is an impossible
task.
5. Please use the Community Centre for car parking. This makes the road safer. Note that there is a
one-way system in operation so please follow it and make sure that you tell child-minders,
grandparents and anybody else who may come to collect your child.
6. Put all money in named envelopes and make sure they are all properly sealed. We cannot trace
who has paid for what if you do not do this. Give all envelopes and letters to your child to put in
the Class box rather than handing it at the school office.
7. Take all holidays in the 13 weeks that the children are off school.
8. Make sure that your child does all homework in time and provide a suitable bag, folder etc for work
to go in so that it doesn’t get creased. Your child will be given a reading folder when they start with
us.
9. Please read Newsletters on the school website www.ridgewayprimary.com each Friday and support
what we are trying to achieve as a school. The more you put into school as a family, the more
you’ll get out of it.
10. School meals are now universally free in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. For children in Year 3 and
upwards dinners are payable in advance at £10 per week. These are ordered and cancelled a week
in advance and need to be made in writing. If paying by cheque these are payable to ‘Derbyshire
County Council’.
11. Remember we are here to help. Contact your class teacher at home-time, if you have any worries,
questions or suggestions. Alternatively speak to the Head Teacher about any concerns you have.
12. Also remember what you hear from your child may not be the full story! If you agree to not believe
everything your child says about school, we promise not to believe everything your child tells us
about you!
13. We are really looking forward to you all being part of our school community and working together
to ensure your child has the best start to their educational journey.
