P. 5
Many retirees have chosen to
move to an age-restricted active
adult community in which they plan
to spend their days surrounded by
swimming pools, organized activities,
and most importantly other active adults.
Many people are drawn by the appeal of living
in a safe, leisure-oriented community, free of
young families, rush-hour traffic, and undesirable
neighbors. But, what holds true for one individual or
family, does not ring true for all individuals.
While the lifestyle and amenities offered at active
adult communities are an excellent fit for many
retirees, they are not for others. Here are seven
questions to consider before you start packing.
1. Do I want lots of amenties and activities, which
could mean higher HOA?
2. Do I want to live my independent life but have
access to fitness and social activies/clubhouse?
3. Do I prefer stricter community rules and
covenants?
4. Do I want to live in a community of my peers?
5. Do I want a more manageble home size and less
maintenance?
6. Do I want to get to know people and establish
new relationships?
7. Do I want to live in a quieter (almost kid free)
neighborhood?
8. Is this community better suited for the next
stage of my life?
If you answered yes to the majority of the questions
above, it is time to consider moving to an active adult
community. On the other hand, if you answered no,
you might be ready to move, but are not quite ready
to live the retired adult lifestyle quite yet.
