A distinguished lecture program on "Control of
                                                 .
Power Electronics Systems using P redictive
        Switching Sequences and Switching
Transitions" was hosted at VIT, Chennai and
organized by IEEE Power Electronics Society
(PELS) Chapter, Student branch, VIT University,
        Chennai on 11th July 2019.

Dr. Sudip K. Mazumder, IEEE Fellow, Professor, Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering & Director, Laboratory for Energy and Switching-

Electronics Systems (LESES), University of Illinois, Chicago was nominated for this
lecture program as a distinguished lecturer by IEEE Power Electronics Society. Dr.
Mazumder presented a fundamentally different perspective to the control of
        solid-state semiconductor-device-based switching power-electronic systems
(PESs). 80 participants including several faculty members of different university
and colleges, research scholars and students of VIT University attended this
        program.

A seminar based on “Grid integration of
                                          renewable energy sources-Challenges and
Possible Solutions” was held by Mr. S.
Selvakumar, Project Lead Engineer, ABB, Chennai,
Dr. S. Hemamalini, Professor, SELECT, VIT Chennai,
Dr. Binu Ben Jose, Associate Professor, SELECT, VIT
                                          Chennai, Dr. Vijayakumar Krishnasamy, Assistant
Professor, IIITDM, Kancheepuram on 27/7/19. The

topics of discussion included renewable energy
penetration and its contribution in grid connected
systems, power quality analysis of grid integrated
solar PV systems and the various topologies used
for grid connected PV systems and its performance.
Various topologies of grid connected wind driven
                                          induction generators was also discussed.
