Application activity: Listed below are various types of difficult people and their associated behaviours. Identify the possible reasons or emotional needs associated with their behaviour. Then develop some strategies or actions to help you work effectively with that person.

• Usually achieve their short term objective but at the expense of others
• Hostile-aggressive
• Uses swearing or abusive

• May try to control you or

• Uses your weaknesses
against you, through sabotage behind your back or well-aimed put-downs in front of others.
The Nay Sayer Complainer
• Very negative language
• Points out real problems
but in a way that elicits defensive responses from others
• See themselves as victims. They want someone else to solve their problems, believing they are unable to change things
The Retired on the Job
• Put in minimum effort they can get away with
• Counting down the days to retirement
• Been there, done that attitude
• Don’t want to change or engage in C.I.
