value added work. The members of the work group should be respected for their ability to perform the value added work and at the same time continually be challenged on how to improve.
Task Teams
Tasks teams are brought together to perform a task or a project and when the project is completed, the teams dissolve. The team members are typically taken from their regular tasks to be allowed to focus on the project full time. An example would be a team put together to launch a new product, implement a new system.
Continuous Improvement Teams
CI teams are cross functional teams that are focused on improving a process or a value stream. The team is challenged with finding improvements to the process or the value stream. A CI team is made up of members from different departments or functional teams but all the members of the team have a common focus and common goals.
The team must work between departments, break down ‘silos’ and work together to ensure that the customers in the process, both internal and external, get value. CI teams can have the biggest impact on the flow of product or information through the company. While all groups must be challenged to think of internal and external customers, the CI team engages both sets of customers in the improvement process and, as such, can have the major impact.
