Why Teams
Continuous Improvement is a structured process in which every employee continuously improves the organization by bringing added value for both internal and external customers.
If a company does not improve, it will not survive. As quoted by Deming, “It is not necessary to change, survival is not mandatory.”
All companies that survive
do some improvements
over time. A structured CI operation will achieve results quicker. Leveraging learning with other teams, departments and companies accelerates innovation, improvement and competitiveness.
Why teams?
Teams are the vehicles we use to get the right things done. Teams provide us with a number of different perspectives. Not one person has all the answers. Teams allow us to work together in order to spread the effort over a number of resources instead of just one. Teams force us to listen, discuss and develop consensus so that we are doing the best we can do. No one is as smart as all of us put together.
Teams and individual excellence
Teams provide us with the support we need to do value added work, but teams do not do the value added work, individuals do. Teams coordinate the work, motivate us and allow us to learn from each other. Through meetings, teams decide on actions and build accountability.
Our companies need to find a balance between individual work and team work and between individual effectiveness and team effectiveness. Individuals have the knowledge and the team is the vehicle to transform the knowledge into actions that help all individuals achieve success. Teamwork is the foundation and individuals perform in the team to achieve results.
