Key Role
The Decision Maker
• Has the formal authority to decide what things will be done.
• They need to be committed to the change and prepared to have the
organization go through the process of change.
• They should be able to manage the interactions with any other groups or departments and to take responsibility for the changes being implemented.
The Champion
• Tireless advocate of change and persistent in the face of setbacks.
• Constantly looks outside the company for examples of best practices and
challenges the team to take on improvements.
• Probably has a vision of what they believe the team can achieve.
• They walk and talk that vision consistently.
The Facilitator
• Someone who is able to divorce themselves from the ‘task’ issues and concentrate on helping with the ‘process.’
• They can devise ways of helping people explore the impact of change.
• Respected at all levels of the company and trusted by people to be impartial and unbiased.
The Sage Promoter
• Someone who probably has experience with change.
• Aware of the kinds of reactions in people that change will evoke, they can
give advance warning to the Decision Maker and Champion.
• They are usually patient, yet persistent and are able to handle crises caused by adverse reactions.
Early Adopters
• Are accepted by others as trustworthy and competent.
• See and diagnose problems from the perspective of their audience and are
able to articulate the need for change.
• Exert informal influence and motivate people to change.
• Act as change agents.
