 Cross Boundary Communication
Communication needs to occur effectively and efficiently across various boundaries – between functional areas, teams, shifts, etc. in order to ensure flow towards the customer.
Characteristics of Cross Boundary Communication in a Continuous Improvement Environment:
• Vertical, horizontal – and two-way to convey information about the changes to other departments
• Bottom-up - provides valuable, timely information about changes that are going on, and about new challenges that arise as progress is made
• Horizontal - not up-across-down, but directly from the source of the information to the need
Your communications with your team and with other teams should include a variety of methods – determining what communications tool or forum is most appropriate, for what audience, with what objective, and what key message.
Below are a number of different communications formats. Identify the pro’s and con’s of each one for effective cross boundary communication.
